Apple gaming computer vs PC gaming computer – KXAN Austin

Is Apple or PC best for gaming?

Microsoft Windows and Apple’s macOS are the two most popular operating systems, and they are both relatively accessible to the average user. Although none of them are very difficult to use, they have significantly different advantages and disadvantages and are most useful for very different things.

If you want a smooth user experience, enjoy working with audio, video or video editing software and just casually play a few low-power games, an Apple computer is a great choice. If you are interested in playing the latest AAA titles with high resolutions and frame rates, a Windows PC is an absolute must.

Apple gaming computers

The first difference between Apple and Windows computers is that Apple basically allows zero customization at the hardware level. In fact, installing macOS on a non-Apple computer is a violation of Apple’s copyright, which means you can not actually build your own Apple computer.

The advantage of this from Apple’s point of view is that it can optimize the operating system to work best with specific components and configurations over which Apple has full control. The result of this optimization is an OS that makes efficient use of the hardware and provides a unique user experience. It may take some insight and patience to customize your Windows PC to run exactly, but macOS is powerful and easy to use from the first time you boot it.

Unfortunately, if you want to play the latest, most groundbreaking 3D games, Apple and its operating system do not have much for them. Because few Apple computers have the necessary hardware, there are very few advanced games available for the platform. On the other hand, there are plenty of informal games available for macOS, such as top-down adventure games and puzzles.

The pros for Apple gaming computers

  • Great for non-game use: Apple PCs are incredibly popular for photo and video editors. This is partly because programs like Adobe Photoshop are optimized to run smoothly on macOS, and partly because Apple’s screen quality is generally unmatched in terms of resolution and color accuracy.
  • User-friendly experience: For the most part, Apple computers work perfectly out of the box with little or no configuration or adjustment.
  • Fun casual games: There is a decent selection of games that work with Macs. In particular, the new M1 chipset that drives the latest round of MacBooks is relatively good at medium-power games such as The Sims 4, Stardew Valley and Slay the Spire. There is also a good selection of exciting, fast-paced games from just a few years ago that have been confirmed to work on the new chipset. These include Rise of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Bioshock Remastered.

Disadvantages of Apple gaming computer

  • High prices: Apple computers generally cost more than Windows PCs with comparable hardware.
  • Strange performance: The components inside Apple computers are simply not powerful enough to run the latest 3D games.
  • Limited premium game catalog: Because the code it runs on is so different from Windows, macOS lacks support for many games. A developer must spend considerable resources on creating a macOS-compatible version of a game written for Windows, and few major outfits take the time to do so because apples lack the necessary firepower for advanced graphics.

Windows gaming computers

Windows PCs are and have been the top choice for dedicated gamers for many years. The ability to build a custom computer allows each user to set their own level of performance, but it can also add a significant degree of difficulty. Still, if you want to play flashy first-person shooters in Ultra HD at 120 frames per second, a Windows gaming PC is the only option.

Windows gaming PC pro

  • An almost infinite catalog: One of the biggest advantages of PC gaming is that there are virtually no limits to the range of games you can play. If your hardware can handle it, you can run almost any software released to the platform in the last few decades.
  • Impressive performance levels: If you can afford premium hardware and know exactly how to adjust it, a Windows PC can deliver performance that even Apple’s premium hardware can’t match.
  • Customizable hardware: The ability to pick and choose your components allows you to set a specific budget for your gaming PC. In comparison, Apple computers force you to pay a particularly high price regardless of whether you use every single one of a MacBook’s premium features.

Disadvantages for Windows gaming PC

  • Configuration can be a bit difficult: If you are new to PCs or electronics in general, it can be confusing to set up a Windows PC at first. Because Windows is designed to work with such a wide variety of hardware configurations, there is often a hiccup when it comes to how the software communicates with other software and components. This is even more pronounced if you decide to fine-tune your setup for improved performance using methods such as overclocking.
  • They are still not cheap: Due to external forces such as lack of raw materials and massively increased demand, it is surprisingly difficult to obtain powerful components without using an arm and a leg.
