Exclusive: Watch the new music video for the “Street Fighter 6” theme song

Just a few months before they are 35th jubileum, den Street Fighter the series is back with its last part – and a theme song that comes with it. Rocco808 and Randy Marx’s “Not on the Guidelines” were produced by GRP to evoke the themes and retro vibe of the 1987 combat game series. Directed by Ross Harris, the video features both rappers and two special guests: quadriplegic graffiti artist Benny Diar and dancer Sumi Oshima.

Developed by Capcom Street Fighter the series is considered a groundbreaking franchise, not only in the fighting game genre, but the game history itself. Although the first entry in the series was launched in the late eighties, it was the second part – Street Fighter II – as most casual gamers remember. It hit arcades in February 1991, launching a fighting game revolution with multiple revisions and countless gates over the next three decades. It inspired a generation of both players and developers, and became a touchstone almost immediately.

Part of the game’s appeal has always been the diverse range of fighter jets, featuring fighters from around the globe, each representing their own nation with unique fighting styles and designs reminiscent of their culture – although some of the oldest designs have not exactly aged well. . In addition to an ever-evolving cultural sensitivity to racial stereotypes, Street Fighter the series has been dedicated to inclusion. This theme is reflected in the new music video, which centers around the theme of how individuals all “fight their own battles”.

Regarding why Capcom chose hip-hop for their new game’s theme song, Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto said: “Whether it’s the intro to Street Fighter, the characters quoted by famous rappers, or the art you see on the streets, we are aware of that Street Fighter is a perfect match for street and hip-hop culture. And with Street Fighter 6we pushed it in advance and you can feel that flavor throughout the sound of the game as well. ”

Since 2016’s barebones release of Street Fighter V, the series has fallen somewhat into disfavor with many players. But with new eSports-centric features, an overwhelmingly positive response on social media to the recent leak of the game’s alleged character list, and even a “Fighting Ground” mode that brings comments from the fighting game community’s Jeremy “Vicious Lopez” and Aru, it looks up to the iconic franchise.

Street Fighter 6 is scheduled for release in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S and PC. Matsumoto also confirmed Rolling stone that “Not on the Sidelines” will be heard in the game.
