Apparently, EA can work on a brand new Marvel game. It is currently unknown which Marvel IP will get its own game, but fans may wonder who may appear in the future.
Marvel has had a number of success stories when it comes to video game adaptations of its famous cartoon characters, just look at Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. All three games are available in the PlayStation Plus Extra playlist for PS Plus Premium and Extra subscribers. But according to a new rumor, maybe another Marvel IP will join the ranks of these three great games, and no, it’s not Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
Update: No platforms were mentioned by the source, and adjustments have been made accordingly, although it is safe to assume – if the game exists and is ever released – the PS5 would be a minimum.
Can this Marvel IP center around iconic characters like Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange?
As reported by Tech4Gamers, on the Xbox Era podcast, Nick Baker, a well-known industry expert, talked about Electronic Arts creating a brand new Marvel IP. However, he did not reveal much about what that IP is or which EA studio could work on the project.
“Out of nowhere, this new source is sending me a DM the other day saying, ‘Oi, EA’s making a Marvel game.’ I can not [say more] – because he mentioned what it would probably be about (what IP it would be about) – and I can not even give clues. I’m bad at giving clues without giving away things. “
No platforms were mentioned, but it is safe to assume that the current gene is on the table. Nick Baker also notes that he should have run the reputation of a few other sources before noting it in the podcast. It’s also worth noting that since none of this has been officially announced by EA, bring a few pinches of salt, regardless of whether Baker is known to hit the nail on the head more often than not.
If this information turns out to be true, Marvel may have another award-winning game on hand, just like most of the recent releases – let’s just forget Marvel’s Avengers, shall we? Seeing EA linked to the project is a bit worrying, since in recent years they have not had the best track record when it comes to games – Anthem anyone? But let’s not forget the success stories of It Takes Two and the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, proof that EA can still knock it out of the park.
It will be interesting to see which EA studio ends up working on this huge project if it really is real. EA Montreal or EA Vancouver may be possible candidates to take the lead in this unknown Marvel IP; However, it could have been even more interesting if an EA studio like BioWare were to take over. Imagine a Marvel game with the same deep knowledge and interactions we saw from the likes of Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Of course, BioWare is very busy with the next Dragon Age game, which we now know is called Dragon Age Dreadwolf and the next Mass Effect game, which everyone just calls Mass Effect 4 for now. So the chances of BioWare working on this project are pretty low, but we can hope.
With so little information to go on, we are truly left in the dark. For now, all we can do is hope that EA comes up with some form of announcement in the near future. I do not want to hold my breath for it to happen in the first place. If this turns out to be true, I would love to play a game about Scarlet Witch, or my favorite Marvel character ever, Elektra. It can be a decent R-rated heavy hitter from Marvel, just like the Deadpool PS4 game.
Marvel is currently at an all-time high in the film industry, with breakthrough success from the box office on the left, right and center. It makes sense that Marvel wants to take advantage of the success and continue to push that momentum forward, so it’s a great idea to make more video games. What do you think about this rumor? Which Marvel character would you like to see in their own game? Also tell me how much you love Garus in the comments below!
