Starfield is a highly anticipated game, marking the first single-player role-playing game for Bethesda Game Studios in more than seven years. It was the last game to be shown during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12. We got an extended look at the game in action, including combat, shipbuilding and the environments. It certainly looks to be a huge game, and the huge part that was given at the show reflected that.
Microsoft ended its briefing with the first game ever for Starfield. Bethesda’s Todd Howard introduced the fans to a sequence on the planet Crete in the year 2330. The game footage showed first-person play by the player who entered a space station and defeated enemies with a machine gun, and later a powerful shotgun.
The footage also showed a lock-selecting game mechanic as well as some third-person shooting sequences. The footage also showed the game’s capital, New Atlantis, which appears to be a large, busy city where players will accept quests and learn more about the world.
Starfield’s character creation system was also featured in the footage, and Howard called it Bethesda’s most comprehensive to date. There are optional features that players can also choose, and each of these has advantages and disadvantages. In addition, Starfield will even let players create and customize their own spaceships, and then fly them.
When discussing the size of Starfield, Howard also confirmed that Starfield has more than 1,000 planets, and each one is open and accessible for players to explore.
Starfield was originally scheduled to launch in November, but it was delayed until 2023 along with Redfall when Bethesda continues to add polish. Once released, the next game from Bethesda Game Studios will be The Elder Scrolls VI.
